Box Breathing

Box breathing, or square breathing, is when we breathe in regulated, time-controlled patterns. The goal is to help regulate your nervous system and ground yourself in the present moment enough to minimize activation of your fight, flight, fawn or freeze response. This technique is useful in moments of low to medium stress and best utilized when you can separate yourself (literally physically) from the situation to focus on yourself and your desired calmness.

Practice these 4 easy steps now and then challenge yourself to engage with this technique next time you feel yourself getting upset.

Boundaries are value-centric limits, rules or expectations we set (or otherwise allow) with others as we build relationships. Boundaries are important to maintain our sense of trust and strength in the relationships we engage with.

However, when boundaries are poorly enforced or not well identified and communicated, a lack of mutual understanding of one’s boundaries can cause major conflict or misunderstandings. Below you’ll find ways to help you communicate your value-centric boundaries and potential pathways of communicating and maintaining these with others.
